About Our Services The Buffalo Urban League Employment Division maintains a client base of 1,182 individuals. Among them are individuals who are looking for entry level employment, new to the workforce or who have limited work experience or skills. We also assist individuals who are skilled workers, paraprofessionals or professionals who have been affected by layoffs or who are seeking to upgrade their employment. This year also marks our first in which we are engaged in a primary partnership with the Buffalo Employment and Training Center (BETC). Through this cooperative venture, job seekers are provided a full complement of employment services through the community’s one-stop employment center. All individuals enrolled with the Employment Transition Services are concurrently registered with BETC. This enables the individuals to participate in a variety of services tailored to meet specific employment needs. This includes workshops offered in such topics as: computer instruction, resume preparation, job readiness and career planning. Additionally, representatives from other agencies, who are involved as partners in the one-stop employment system, are available to facilitate job referrals. Businesses routinely make on-site presentations to small groups, acquainting interested job seekers with employment opportunities. This year, several new businesses which partnered with the Employment Transition Services Department at the one-stop center were: Cingular Wireless, Lowes, Home Depot, the Pepsi Group and McDonald’s Inc. As you notice on our navigation menu to the left, we have a partnership with AT&T. Our Employment Services Division would like to talk with you about your career possibilities with Cingular, one of the world's renoun communication technology solution providers. We currently have an employment partnership with Kaleida Health. For linkage to Kaleida Health Employment Opportunities, click here. In the Last Year . . . This year the Employment Transition Services Department hosted a major hiring event for Home Depot, resulting in more than 70% of the 166 individuals interviewed being hired for employment. Also, a cooperative effort with Pepsi staff provided consumers, interested in employment with Pepsi, the advantage of individual instruction for on-line job applications. The Employment Transition Services continues to be the primary local recruiter for the Rochester Police Officer exam. |
