Housing and Consumer Rights Champion for Justice – Beverly Moore
“LAB gives this award to Beverly Moore of the Buffalo Urban League for her outstanding service and commitment in Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention. Beverly Moore, Coordinator of the Housing Department at Buffalo Urban League, has made exceptional progress in securing load modifications for homeowners faced with losing their homes in foreclosure. With over 11 years of housing counseling experience, she has taken a leading role in her dedication to helping low-to-moderate-income residents in our community to remain in their homes and most importantly, in restoring their pride and dignity. Beverly is everywhere when it comes to working for financial and housing justice. She has served as a Cochair of the Erie County Fair Housing Partnership Task Force on Predatory Lending and is a founding member of HOUSE (Housing Organizations United to Serve Effectively). This is a coalition of local housing counseling agencies and their legal partners collaborating to support various housing issues. She is also involved with New Yorkers for Responsible Lending and serves on several City of Buffalo Housing Strategy and Task Force Communities. She conducts numerous workshops and presentations and offers financial education courses to assist, serve and elevate the quality of consumer rights and housing in our community. We are honored to work with such a prolific and thoughtful champion for public interest: we are thrilled to recognize her many thoughtful achievements through this award.”
Reentry Services Champion for Justice – Tracy Fleming
This award is given to a member of the community who has provided amazing support to the reentry population. Tracy Fleming is the Supervisor of the Buffalo Urban League’s Re-Entry Program. Tracy and her team are dedicated to ensuring individuals success in the transition back into their families and community after periods of incarceration. She works directly with individuals on family reunification issues, educational projects as well as a broad range of often unforeseen obstacles faced by her clients. Tracy also provides assistance in obtaining official identification and documentation, applying for public benefits, petitioning for child support modifications or requesting child visitation and reunification. Tracy will never back down from any problem and faces adversity with grace and humor. Her public presentations, to potential clients or other Re-Entry service providers, have been invaluable in educating the community with respect to issues Re-Entry clients face and the various needed approaches to getting them the needed help. She has been a vital guide to LAB staff over the past year as we developed our Re-Entry Services Project. We are pleased to be able to give this award, honoring the critical work she has done on behalf of those recently released from incarceration. |
